  • Ascorbic Acid
  • Water Soluble
  • Cannot be synthesised in the body or stored by it – therefore needs to be  incorporated in diet
  • Necessary for formation of collagen (connective tissue – required for healing of wounds)

  • Citrus fruits
  • Kiwi
  • Strawberries
  • Blackcurrents
  • Red and Green Peppers
  • Tomatoes
  • Potato
  • Green Veg – broccoli/brussels sprouts/cabbage

Benefits:

  • It is an antioxidant
  • It enhances the absorption of iron
  • An antihistamine – blocks the release of histamine (therefore it can make allergic reactions less severe)
